The players are seasoned competitors in the Grand Tournament of Carnova, a city-state where the arena games are the highest form of sport, honor, and civic pride. Fighters travel from across the world to compete, some for glory, some for coin, some to prove a point. The players have each entered for their own reasons, but they've been paired together as a sponsored team by a wealthy patron who believes in them (perhaps foolishly).
